Strava tells us that the 70-mile event in south Wales saw an average speed of over 25mph, with the decisive moment coming on the fourth and final lap of the 18-mile course.
After three laps, a group of 15 had one minute 30 seconds on the peloton, which contained all three Madison Genesis riders – Tristan, Matt Cronshaw and Gruff Lewis.
On the final lap, Tristan, Matt and Gruff rode across to the front group.
For this effort, Gruff produced 467 watts for over three minutes to help bring back the break and set up the final showdown.
A pulsating final 15-minutes of racing, saw attack after attack.
Tristan's file (above) shows five efforts of over 900 watts as he fought (along with Matt and Gruff) to make a final selection before riders climbed the Cowbridge bypass to the finish.
With a small gap established, Tristan had distanced himself - alongside Zach May and James Phillips – and on the final drag to the line held 330 watts for over three minutes, before launching his finishing sprint – 800 watts for 20 seconds and a peak power of 1295!
And that's what it took to win the Betty Pharoah Memorial road race!
Don’t forget to give Tristan, Gruff and Matt some kudos on Strava for their efforts and follow them even more insights into their training and racing.
