The Pearl Izumi 2013 Tour Series has begun! The finish line in Kirkcaldy town centre an the shores of the Firth river provided the perfect setting for the exciting one hour of racing. The tight 1.4 km lap saw lots of action from the first lap but the high speed of the main bunch meant groups were being distanced from the back rather than creating any advantages at the front. Madison Genesis riders were really attentive at the front until disaster struck. Ian Bibby hit the barriers after a very dubious maneuver from another rider, ending his nights racing before it really got started.

The other four tried to keep in control of the race but with a man down it was always going to be a struggle. Finally a four man break did establish with 15 minutes of racing remaining. Madison Genesis riders tried to close the gap but the tactical games being played in the bunch made it impossible to do. So with five laps to go we decided to concentrate on playing the numbers games and get as many of our riders in the front of the peleton for the sprint. The guys did well by placing two in the first 10 and ensuring a top five in the team classification

"Today was a difficult day for the team. To lose a key rider from an already small team so early on was difficult and created a lot of problems for us. The other four rode a good race, defending as well as they could but we would have much prefered to be the protagonists. Hopefully we will have more luck in Durham " Team Manager – Roger Hammond
