Otley was host to the first round of the Elite Criterium series. With a full afternoon and evening of racing and the renowned passionate Yorkshire cycling fans, this was always going to be a great day. The anticipation of the Tour de France starting here next year only added to the interest amongst the massive crowds that lined the slightly “longer than usual” 2.25km loop. With an unlimited entry, 120 riders lined up in the fading light for the one hour plus five laps race.
As with all of the races this year the depth of talent in the UK meant the racing was fast and furious from the start and didn't really let up for the entire distance. A crash mid-way in the race ended up being the decisive moment, holding up both Dom and Chris. Meanwhile the breakaway established and despite a concerted chase by Jack and Dean, they were able to hold onto their slender lead until the finish. Dean, not willing to give up in his local race still sprinted to a top ten on the night.
"It’s a pity for Dom and Chris, they were both riding really well when another rider's misfortune has taken them out of contention. Dean and Jack held fought well but with 120 riders in the bunch it was always going to be difficult. They persevered though and got a very respectable top ten is the result."
