Madison Genesis riders Chris Snook and Seb Baylis led out last night’s (27 June) inaugural Tyne 6 Bridges rides on the banks of the River Tyne in Newcastle.
Nearly 450 riders signed up for the event, a new event to mark the start of the long-running Virgin Money Cyclone weekend.
At the finish, Madison Genesis team manager Roger Hammond said: “It was great to see so many kids and families out on the rides tonight. It’s a great way to start a fantastic weekend of cycling.”
Virgin Money Cyclone organiser Peter Harrison said: “This is the first time we have run the Tyne Six Bridges rides as part of the Virgin Money Cyclone and I am proud that there are so many riders of all types having a great time. I can’t wait for the rest of the weekend!”
Andrew Nicholson, Head of Sponsorship at Virgin Money said: “The inaugural Tyne Six Bridges Ride proved really popular with so many families taking part. The Virgin Money Cyclone has something to offer for everyone from the youngster rider to the seasoned club cyclist. ”
The Tyne 6 Bridges rides are followed by the Leazes Crtiteriums (Friday 28 June), Cyclone Challenge 33, 63 and 104 mile rides (Saturday 29 June) and the elite Curlew Cup women’s and Beaumont Trophy men’s races (Sunday 30 June).
